About Us

EAA Chapter 477 (LowCountry Sport Aviation, Inc.)
Welcome to our home! Pull up a chair, lean back and join us! We hope you find our site entertaining, educational and informative. Each of our members share a passion for flying and the aircraft that allow them to be lifted above the bonds of earth. To float through canyons of gossamer mist where we offer the less fortunate a chance to join us in our pleasure. Poetic license? Perhaps...but it expresses our reality of flight! For when we watch a wide eyed child, thrilled beyond words, step from a plane after their first 'Young Eagles Flight', we feel all of our efforts worth while.

EAA chapters across the country have flown more than One Million 'Young Eagles'. Many of our members join the Angel Flight volunteers who fly medically challenged patients unable to afford commercial transportation or meet a critical treatment schedule. All this would not have happened had we not answered the call of our passion. Our Chapter Meetings welcome those of you who are already pilots or aspiring to be one; already building or restoring an airplane or thinking about it or are simply excited about aviation and the unequaled thrill of flight.

Interested in aviation?  Would you like to know more about homebuilt aircraft? Enjoy a burger hot off the grill? Then come join us at our next meeting and see what we're all about. We typically meet at 6:30 on the 2nd Thursday of every month at the Aero Club next to the CAFB - unless we're scheduled to go visit a member project.  Click Here for a list of meeting dates.

What is the EAA?
The world of homebuilt aircraft (officially known in the United States as Experimental Amateur-Built Aircraft) has existed as long as powered flight. One could say, in fact, that the Wright brothers were the first homebuilders, since there was no such thing as airplane engineers or designers. They, like the homebuilders of today, used their own skills and craftsmanship to construct an efficient flying machine. The Experimental Aircraft Association was founded in 1953 by a group of airplane enthusiasts composed of individual airplane builders joined together through their common interest. Everyone with an interest in aviation has always been welcomed to the organization.

The EAA has been the organization of record as the homebuilt movement throughout the world that moved from simple, one-place tube-and-fabric airplanes 50 years ago to today's wide spectrum of sophisticated aircraft that feature plans and kit-built projects. No matter the airplane challenge, one thing remains constant - homebuilt aircraft provide a path where nearly anyone can pursue their personal dream of flight.

Today, tens of thousands of homebuilt aircraft fly throughout the world. A significant number of homebuilt aircraft have flown around the globe and one, the Voyager in 1986, remains the only privately built airplane ever to fly around the world non-stop on a single tank of fuel. In addition the same "homebuillders" put together a spacecraft without the aid of any government organization and launched a man into space returning safely... not once but twice!!
